Driver Qualification

If you’re looking to hire drivers for transporting cargo within or between states, you need to have driver qualification files. These files contain job and driving records, a certificate of violations, a road test certificate, and a three-year inquiry to state agencies. These are additional to the usual driving credentials. Driver qualification records should be updated every year. In certain cases, the DoT may also ask for drug and alcohol testing.

Requirements for Truck ELDs in Driver Logs/ELogs for Truck Drivers

In December 2019, the FMCSA began enforcing vehicle ELD requirements. Employers must now use an electronic logging device (ELD) connected to the vehicle engine to track daily Hours of Service. These electronic logs for truck drivers must be reviewed monthly for compliance. The DoT auditors and examiners often target truck driver logs, so it’s crucial to get this right.

Additionally, the DoT/FMCSA allows state mileage and roadside safety audits and inspections, as well as inspections by IRP and IFTA. This responsibility can be overwhelming, which is why you should consider delegating it to RFL (Route Flow Logistics).

Selecting a DOT Compliance Service

There are strict regulations in the trucking business to protect drivers, customers, and everyone on the road. Compliance is crucial for all owner-operators and carriers. Therefore, choosing a DOT compliance partner that simplifies compliance and avoids hassles is important.

Benefits of working with a reputable DOT compliance partner include:

  1. Peaceful electronic log management for truck drivers: A reliable service provider will handle all regular reporting and logging, including digitizing driver logs, without causing drivers additional stress or hassle.

  2. Protecting your business’s income: Ensuring compliance with safety rules and updating vehicle logs helps avoid fines. Compliance also assures your clients of your dedication to public safety and overall responsible conduct as a reliable owner-operator driver.

  3. Promoting your business confidently: By complying with regulations, you provide clients with peace of mind. Even as your company grows, a compliance service can ensure that all your vehicles and activities adhere to safety rules.
